Description

Based on a thorough and scientifically valid analysis of all relevant doubleblind randomized clinical trials (DBRCT), Neurontin is not an effective drug for thetreatment of neuropathic pain. My thorough review and meta-analysis of availablepublished and unpublished evidence shows that Neurontin (gabapentin) has at besta clinically insignificant average effect on pain scores. The proportion of patientswho recognize “improvement” on a Patient Global Impression of Change scale atthe end of studies is roughly matched by the proportion of patients who experienceadverse events. In the real world, to which the concept of “effectiveness” applies, patients taking Neurontin (gabapentin) should be expected to accrue less benefit andmore harm. Thus, in my opinion, Neurontin (gabapentin) has not beendemonstrated to be an effective treatment for pain.
